Summary

Travellerspoint.com takes up the challenge of offering users a wiki-based destination guide that is easy to edit without sacrificing aesthetic appeal. Gorgeous photography and a sharp design give users a travel guide that looks as good as any printed guidebook... while allowing anyone to chip in with their contribution.

Press Release

Travellerspoint has opened its destination guide up for anyone to edit. The move towards a wiki-based travel guide is a logical step for the site, as it continues to provide users with multiple services enabling them to share their travel experiences with like-minded people.

Travellerspoint members already uses the site to upload photos, participate in forums, maintain blogs and offer advice to others as Travel Helpers, so it made sense to turn the site's destination guide into a wiki. Any of the 6,400 gorgeous images in Travellerspoint's featured photo gallery - hand-picked from over 115,000 photos uploaded by members - can be easily added to articles in the guide. With close to 100,000 members, over 3000 of whom already volunteer as Travel Helpers,Travellerspoint will not be short of members contributing to the guide regularly.

User-friendliness has always been the primary concern at Travellerspoint and the wiki guide continues this trend. The editing interface is intuitive and easy to pick up for members already acquainted with Travellerspoint's blogging platform and other services, allowing those who are unfamiliar with wikis to dive right in and contribute. Tech-savvy users will find all the familiar wiki functions.

The Travellerspoint wiki is licensed under Creative Commons, making it compatible with other major wiki travel guides.

Unlike other wiki travel guides, however, Travellerspoint?s guide is not a standalone product. It branches out into all of Travellerspoint's most popular services. Country-related wiki articles conveniently link to relevant forum discussions, blog entries, photos, accommodation bookings and members who are from that country or who act as Travel Helpers. This comprehensive array of services offers users a valuable resource for researching, booking and recording their trip.
